Meanwhile in Dolphin's personal life: the baby dolphins will not sleep this week. So basically when I'm not sending PMs, I'm either putting children to bed or falling asleep myself. Which means the quality of this fine confessionaling establishment has taken a turn for the bare. I want to post in here, and I am doing things!
Maybe this 6-person tribe will be just what I need.

I think I've also forgotten what interesting early game confessional posting looks like. Like what do specs and post-game players care about seeing? That may also just be my approach to this early game though: I'm putting a heavy focus on leaving options open and giving myself that flexibility for when the later parts of the game are here.

Maybe I just think my thoughts are boring and gamebotty and filter them out when I shouldn't too
For example: I think all three APen critters I've met on this new Terrarium tribe have moderately high prospects of being a long-term ally for me, based on their first impressions. Pika is obviously the strongest of the lot socially, and I feel like I can match that if I want to, but I might want to reserve myself a little bit around her depending on what kind of relationship I want with her. If I want her as a close ally now, I can start going all in with her socially, but if I'd rather just be someone they value and want to work with but not 100%, then maybe I want to dial it down a notch. Rabbit says she and Pika are talking quite a bit, so I could easily let her carry that relationship and then defend me from getting voted, being just good enough with Pika that she agrees to have me as a side ally. That's what I'm leaning towards right now. Slow Loris says she was almost voted out on the first round, and she came in with lots of overexcitement, making me think that she is nervous. But she doesn't seem so bad. If I play that conversation well, then maybe she is a good ally to have that would favour me over other players in the game. But I'd need confidence that she at least has enough social connections that she won't just get voted out on me. And Elephant Shrew is mostly interested in talking game, which is neat but has limited potential. I imagine this player already has allies, is possibly connected to Pika who I perceive as strong. Working with Elephant Shrew would be a first step in getting closer to APen as a whole, which is probably a good thing because I didn't feel amazing about my spot in Aviary. But I have the weakest read on this critter. I also need to consider that Giant Panda is on this tribe, and I don't feel so close to him, but he is a decently strong player and could be making connections with the APen players too. I can either angle for GP to be our first vote, or I can stick with him for now. But either of these options probably means making an alliance with 1-2 APen players, and I need to start working out who I want those players to be.
But that's so boring, who would want to read that, why am I a deadpan robot instead of a chipper dolphin?

I really appreciate that confessional. Knowing where everyone’s head is at is the only way for specs to really follow what’s going on so that one helps a lot.

So let's take a closer look at this tribe
The three APen players are all rather close. This is a problem, because Giant Panda and I are NOT close, and I don't see it as worth it to dtrengthen that relationship for the sake of rivaling the 3-strong of Animal Pen. So I don't actually think we can get a member of the opposing tribe out at our first vote.
You may think, 'that's fine, we'll just vote out Giant Panda', and you'd be forgiven for that - I had the same thought. But Rabbit keeps saying that we're obviously going to stay with Giant Panda and force a tie if needed. She's telling me she's talking a lot with Pika and thinks she can get Pika to flip on Loris. But 1. Loris is cool, I don't really want to vote out Loris, and 2. Pika blatantly doesn't want this either? I told Rabbit that none of the APens want Loris out, and she sent me this:

...which feels ridiculous for a number of reasons. There's no setting up involved in PikaShrew telling me they don't want to vote out Loris.
This has thrown me off the Rabbit train a bit. It doesn't seem like she cares much about finding out what other people want, just about achieving what she wants. Meanwhile, the three APens are all just nice and fun and I'd happily work together with them.
So right now, here's my plan:
- get as close as I can to Pika and Loris, and at least make myself an appealing ally to Shrew
- vote out Giant Panda; hopefully convince Rabbit that going to rocks for Giant Panda isn't reasonable
- probably vote out Rabbit at a second TC, if I feel comfortable with Pika and Loris? I see a better future in this game with them than with Rabbit.
- and the plan if we go to a third TC is to get close enough to Loris and/or Pika that they have my back. There's risk this doesn't work, but it's also pretty likely that we avoid a third TC entirely.
But the first step is to really go in with Pika and Loris. I'm being open and genuine with Pika right now and I'm hoping she values that. With Loris, she's probably valuing security and like, clarity on what she should be doing? And I can provide those things, hopefully. It'd be good for Loris' long-term game to have an ally on the other starting tribe. I'm banking on Loris being at a place where she can realise that and be open to it.

It helps that I actually really feel good about my chats with Pika so far, more than with everyone I talked to on Aviary. Hopefully she feels the same way, because there could be something good here. I just hope my relatively low activity isn't a breaking point with her.

Also how the heck do you paste over a quote??? Under your reply box there's "Preview" and "BBCode" Buttons. If you want to keep formatting from something, switch to BBCode. If you want to do that a lot, you can also set it to default via board settings. |

So I sent this alliance pitch over to Pika yesterday afternoon: So I've gotten the impression so far that you're genuine, and that goes a long way with me. I get the tricky situation that you're in as well, not wanting to Pagong or anything but also really liking who you swapped over with. I'll just say that so far I feel like you and I have potential to work really well together, and also make this a fun game to remember. I don't have anyone that I'd call a rather strong ally at this point in the game, and I see something here. We're of the same mind that swap relationships can be really important in the long term. Whatever needs to happen will happen, but I'm definitely interested in finding a way to work together if you are. And considering how this TC is going, I think this was a fantastic decision. I woke up this morning to two interesting tidbits of info. 1. Apparently Slow Loris went to Rabbit wanting to flip on PikaShrew?! With all three APens telling me they were all in with each other, this surprised me. 2. Loris and Shrew both said that Giant Panda was throwing my name out. Less surprising - I'm more surprised that Giant Panda isn't just full-out pushing my name. So I went to Pika with all this, and Pika tells me that Lorry... is flat-out screwing with Rabbit. Which is not the answer I expected! I think I like this Lorry person XD I am getting rather close to Pika using the power of charisma and just kinda telling the truth about everything. (This is my favourite way to make alliances - it gets you into some good spots that you otherwise would have such a tough time getting into!) The hope is that if I make myself appealing enough to Pika, that even if this tribe keeps losing I'll have someone who wants me around. And then, I told Lorry that I didn't care much for Panda and asked what she wanted... and she spilled the beans. Kind of. She told me she was lying to Rabbit, BUT she said that she would vote Panda this round and then totally vote for Shrew or Pika next round with me and Rabbit. Now, I don't actually know if this is true or not! I lean towards not. The funny thing is, I can just keep asking Lorry what she really wants to do and go with it, and whatever she says it'll be the best play. Because I'm kind of fine with Rabbit going 2nd at this point, but if she wanted to make a move on Shrew I'd also seriously consider it. And finally, Pika and I have realised that Rabbit and Lorry are the same type of chaos, which is why I am now shipping them.  |

So in short, I want Giant Panda out, and so do all the APens, but Rabbit is insisting that everyone views the game the way that Rabbit wants them to, in an attempt to force her goals upon everyone else. And this will be her undoing.

Alright, that went well! I'm a bit worried about how Rabbit will react when she responds to me though >_< I just told her how I felt about this TC, how I didn't feel like she was considering what the other members of the tribe wanted (including me).
Slow Loris and I now have a Super Secret Alliance called the Stealthy Rats! I'm not sure how I fit into that duo as a dolphin, but hey, I'm not complaining. Lorry is chaotic, but maybe a slightly more workable brand of chaos than Rabbit's. And it's just a nice option to have in the back pocket. I don't know how much Lorry values this new alliance with me - she might need some convincing depending on how the game is going at times - but I could see this being great fun.

Hiya. We should chat about last round. I felt as though I was presenting ideas to talk about with you, only to be told 'this is what is happening'. I was telling you what I was hearing about what the members of Animal Pen wanted, and getting back stuff that I knew couldn't be true. It didn't feel like you were very interested in working together with the new members of our tribe - or with me, honestly. I'm not sure if you were closer to Giant Panda than you let on, but that's the impression I had with how resistant you were to him getting voted out. I didn't trust him; I grew to trust the new members of our tribe more. The three of them all said they got on really well, and it was clear that their group of 3 was a lot more solid than ours. I wasn't going to mess with the games of half our tribe for the sake of Giant Panda. We've still got a whole lot of game left to play with these three. Pika and Shrew both really like each other and Lorry, and they felt like you weren't giving them any option but to say they were voting Lorry. Lorry says she does have genuine reservations about her old tribe, but that she preferred to vote Giant Panda and didn't feel like that was an option you were willing to consider. She says that voting with us next round is still something she's willing to do. But... yeah. That's what happened last round from my perspective. I'd be interested in hearing where your head is at. What's there to chat about? You turned. We'll see how this raffle goes. Like you said, they're close. And now there's nothing stopping them from picking us off. Sure, if you'd rather not chat that's fine. lol |
